About Abhaya Kshethram Trust (AKT)
Introduction
Abhaya Kshethram Trust (AKT) is a compassionate home for physically and mentally challenged orphans, destitute women, and elderly individuals. With love and care, AKT ensures that all its residents receive nutritious meals, clean water, clothing, shelter, medical treatment, and therapy—meeting not just their basic needs but also nurturing their dignity and well-being.
A Journey of Service & Growth
Founded in 2007 by Dr. Thasleem on Mother Teresa’s birthday, AKT began with just two residents. Today, it has become a refuge for over 200 individuals in need. This incredible journey has been made possible through the generosity of individual donors, small-scale businesses, and the ongoing support of Hope for Humanity Inc. (HFH), Frederick, Maryland, USA.

HFH’s Lifesaving Support During the COVID-19 Crisis
Initially, HFH’s involvement with AKT was limited, sponsoring just a few meals per week. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic struck, AKT lost much of its public and local support, pushing it into a critical situation. In April 2020, Dr. Thasleem reached out to HFH with a heartfelt plea to feed all 200 orphan residents.
HFH’s generous donors answered the call, ensuring that AKT’s residents received nutritious meals, essential medications, and supplies through July 2020. In July 2020, HFH sent out a general request to its donor community to support a daily meal sponsorship program—and the response was overwhelming.
💙 Because of our compassionate donors:
✅ HFH secured enough support to provide three nutritious meals a day for all 200 residents throughout 2021.
✅ This meal program has continued uninterrupted since April 2020 and remains active to this day.
Many donors chose to sponsor meals in memory of loved ones or to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions, making this initiative deeply personal and impactful.

🛏️ Winter blankets, cots, and clothing
HFH continues to meet the evolving needs of AKT’s residents based on donor contributions.
How You Can Make a Difference
The cost to sponsor three daily meals for all 200 residents is approximately $100 per day. If multiple donors sponsor the same day, additional essential supplies such as medicines, clothing, and blankets are provided.

A New Home for AKT’s Residents
To provide a safe and permanent home, AKT is constructing a brand-new building to house all 200 residents under one roof. The foundation stone was laid on February 23, 2023, but construction is ongoing due to insufficient funds. Currently, the residents are spread across five rental buildings, making it difficult to ensure consistent care.
Thanks to the generosity of HFH donors, ₹27.98 lakhs have already been contributed towards this noble project. However, more support is needed to complete the construction.
